Essences – Hydration and Glow in One Extra Step

An Essence – hydration & glow in one extra step – is the step in your skincare routine that is often underestimated, but which can make a big difference to the result. At Ilse de Beauté, we believe in skincare that is both enjoyable and effective. That's why our range also includes essences: products that prepare, strengthen and give extra glow to the skin, so that all subsequent steps work even better.

Essence vs. Toner – what's the difference?

Many people confuse a toner with an essence, but there is a clear difference:

  • Toner

    • Used after cleansing.

    • Purpose: restore skin balance (normalize pH), remove residual dirt or make-up, and refresh the skin.

    • Texture: light, watery.

  • Essence

    • Used after toner, before serum or cream.

    • Purpose: intensely hydrate, nourish and prepare the skin for the next steps.

    • Texture: lighter than a serum, but richer and more concentrated than a toner.

    • Often contains higher concentrations of active ingredients that penetrate deep into the skin.

In short: a toner restores and refreshes, an essence nourishes and activates.

The power of an Essence

An essence is designed to give the skin extra hydration and nutrients. It often contains ingredients such as:

  • Hyaluronic acid – for deep hydration and a plumper skin feel.

  • Ferments – improve nutrient absorption and strengthen the skin barrier.

  • Vitamins & antioxidants – protect the skin against free radicals.

  • Botanical extracts – soothe and support a healthy glow.

Due to their light texture, essences penetrate quickly into the skin and optimally prepare the skin for serums and creams.

How to use an Essence?

  1. Cleanse your skin and apply a toner (if you use one).

  2. Take a few drops of essence in your palms and gently pat onto your face and neck.

  3. Let it absorb for a moment and follow with serum and cream.

✨ Tip: Use your hands instead of a cotton pad, this way we don't waste any product and your skin benefits maximally from its effect.
