Switching to a natural deodorant?

Switching to natural deodorant?

For six years now, I've been trying to reduce my household use of aerosols. This includes switching to a natural deodorant, not only for home use but also for personal use. So, we don't use dry shampoos or aerosol deodorants.

Initially, I bought a regular roll-on deodorant, but that didn't quite fit my more conscious lifestyle because the ingredients weren't all that good for me. I also wanted recyclable packaging—meaning no plastic. I was looking for a natural deodorant stick, packaged in cardboard!

The first deodorant I bought was one with microsilver, but unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I tried quite a few options, but they usually contained aluminum salts that irritated my skin immensely. My armpits were fiery red and burned.

Before you start...

Honestly, I haven't done this, but it's important to know! It's recommended to detox your armpits. What does this mean?

Because we often use sweat-blocking ingredients, they build up in the pores of our armpits. When we switch to a natural deodorant that doesn't prevent sweating, these ingredients will initially leave your body. This can often result in a more intense sweat odor initially. Many people then decide that the deodorant isn't working for them and abruptly abandon their attempt.

Give the transition some time. You can speed up this transition by detoxing your forearms with charcoal. Charcoal has the ability to absorb toxins.

There are several charcoal-based products. Our detox facial mask can also be used for this, and our detox soap can also help.

During the first few weeks of using natural deodorant, you will gradually notice that your armpits feel softer and the deodorant starts to work better and better.

Our Wondr deodorant stick really ticks all the boxes! It has a very fresh scent, isn't irritating, is in stick form, and is packaged in recyclable cardboard!

A natural deodorant stick for sensitive skin.

If you have sensitive skin, you may not be able to tolerate some natural deodorants.

Two ingredients you should definitely avoid are aluminum salts and sodium carbonate (baking soda). So, check the ingredients list. Our Wondr deodorant stick Blissem Bloss contains neither and is therefore definitely suitable for sensitive skin.

If you sweat very heavily...

Then you need some specific ingredients in your natural deodorant. These ingredients might include cornstarch or zinc ricinoleate, as these absorb moisture very well and don't irritate. My favorite deodorant for these people is Makesenz Deodorant Balm Sensitive Skin (I don't have this one in my range – it's a Belgian brand). This isn't a stick deodorant, but a cream deodorant.

I hope this kind of informative blog post is a hit, I certainly enjoy doing it!
